DAMAGE ASSESSMENT FOR BRICK BUILDINGS WITH RCC SLAB 

 

This section provides a damage assessment by visual screening of damaged brick buildings with RCC slab and provides links to the measures required for rehabilitation of such buildings.

DAMAGE CATEGORY G-1

 

DAMAGES OBSERVED

  • Thin cracks in plaster

  • Falling of plaster in bits and pieces in limited parts

 

ACTION REQUIRED

DAMAGE CATEGORY G-2

 

DAMAGES OBSERVED

  • Small cracks in walls through thickness

  • Falling of plaster in large bits over large areas

  • Damage to piers alongside of storey-height openings

 

ACTION REQUIRED

DAMAGE CATEGORY G-3

 

DAMAGES OBSERVED

  • Large and deep cracks in walls

  • Widespread cracking of walls

  • Racking shear cracks

  • Large cracking and separation at corners of walls

 

ACTION REQUIRED

DAMAGE CATEGORY G-4

 

DAMAGES OBSERVED

  • Gaps occur in walls

  • Some walls collapse partly or wholly

  • Separation at the corners remaining masonry badly shattered

  • Building appears in a dangerous state

 

ACTION REQUIRED

  • Unsafe building- stay away

  • Evacuate immediately

  • Consult technical expert

DAMAGE CATEGORY G-5

 

DAMAGES OBSERVED

  • Complete collapse of the building

 

ACTION REQUIRED

  • Unsafe building and stay away
  • Archive building material for temporary shelter and avoid pilfering.
