SAFETY GUIDE
Civilizations have always endeavored to make lives of citizens safe. Buildings and the environment that we live in needs to be safe. such that uninterrupted activities can proceed. The buildings often contain materials and undertake processes which can endanger lives by fire and smoke. Life safety in such cases of fire is of paramount importance. Considering the consequences of incidence of fire, it is also referred to as “man made disaster”. It, however is generally possible to ensure that safe evacuation can be planned.
Contemporary living is also fraught with concerns of security. Society is becoming increasingly aware of need to plan against anti-social activities, be that terrorism, theft, burglary, anti-social behavior etc. While technology is being made available, the spatial organization is key to managing security risks. The knowledge domain of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design has contributed to the understanding of security planning.
Road accidents have emerged as one of the main ‘killer’ of our times. It is unlikely that the volume of traffic will reduce in future but the sensible actions can lead to reduction in causalities.
