Steps for carrying out brick masonry
-
As far as possible use bricks which are well burnt, free from cracks and organic matter, free from lime.
-
The bricks must be soaked in water for at least 6 to 8 hours before laying.
-
Clean the underlying subsurface of any deleterious matter completely. Preferably lay 75mm thick PCC 1:4:8 layer before laying the first course of bricks
-
Lay the mortar layer not more than 10mm thick over the base.
-
Place bricks over the mortar maintaining joints of not less than 10mm and gently tapping them into the mortar.
-
Maintain line and level of the course using a levelling rod or any other suitable method.
-
Fill these joints with mortar completely
-
Follow the subsequent courses in a similar manner ensuring to cut the joint in each course. The joints are cut by staggering one joint over the other.
-
Keep on checking the plumb of the masonry after each course to ensure the verticality of the wall.
-
Rake all the joints of the brick masonry at the end of the day upto at least 10mm depth.
-
Once the masonry is set ensure to cure it by sprinkling water for at least 7 days.
