
DISEASE SPREAD PREVENTION DURING FLOOD

Aim is to reduce the risk of communicable diseases that spread just after a flood.

Ensure uninterrupted provision of safe drinking water by chlorination. Use chlorine tablets or bleaching powder in the concentration of 0.2-0.25 mg/l to remove nearly all water borne pathogens, bacteria and viruses.

Water must be boiled before drinking.

Persons involved in the management of drinking water, waste water or sewage may be vaccinated against hepatitis A.

Prevent breeding of mosquitos by avoiding stagnation of water and using insecticides.

Promote and practice good hygiene practices.

Ensure safe preparation of food. Do not consume uncooked food.

Be careful and look for early symptoms of diseases like malaria, dengue, yellow fever and start treatment at the earliest.
