
EVACUATION DURING FLOOD

If advised to evacuate your home, do so immediately and follow the evacuation plans of your community closely. Do not create panic, disobey volunteers and never allow a stampeded like situation to occur.

Take the identified route to reach safe location as per planned instructions.

Help the differently abled people of your community to reach the safe location as per planned instructions.

Do not walk through moving water. As little as 6 inches of moving water can make you fall.

If you have to walk in water, wherever possible, walk where the water is not moving. Use a stick to check the firmness of the ground in front of you.

Stay away from tilted electric poles and weak walls that might collapse.

Do not drive into flooded areas. If floodwaters rise around your vehicle/tractor/bullock cart, abandon it and move to higher ground safely.

Do not touch electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in water.

Take care of your health and do not drink water which is not boiled. Use chlorine tablets to disinfect water prior to drinking.

Take utmost care for spread of diseases like cholera and typhoid. Be aware that treatment of such diseases after floods will be a mammoth task and proper health care may be very difficult task.

Do not defecate in the open. Use temporary toilets put up by rescue teams for the purpose.

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap to avoid catching infections brought about by flood water.
